Virginia Dental Assistants Association
Status Update
Membership in the VDAA has continued to decline from over 200 prior to 2003 to 106 in 2021. Five of the seven original chapters have disbanded. The Richmond and Tidewater chapters are in the process of disbanding.
Each of the current VDAA Executive Board members have served in their positions for well over ten years and have tendered their resignations, effective 1 January 2022.
We are searching for VDAA members who are interested in continuing the representation of Virginia to the ADAA. In order for this organization to exist within the ADAA, three positions must be filled: President, Secretary and Treasurer. If any current ADAA/VDAA members wish to step forward, please contact us at our email address: vdaa2@aol.com. You can request contact information from the Website Editor who will connect you with the officer who currently holds the position you may be interested in filling. She will be happy to give you any information you may require in order to make a well-considered decision.
Should there be no responses from the VDAA membership by 15 October, the Executive Board will begin the process of deactivating the Virginia Dental Assistants Association. This will be completed by early 2022. Current VDAA members will continue to receive national representation, updates and benefits through their ADAA membership including malpractice insurance, free or low-cost continuing education courses, uniform/scrub discounts, etc.
This VDAA Executive Board’s final education offering will be presented by Antoinette Kahan, RDH, BA, RDA, CDA, at the VDA/VDAA Annual Session. This will be held from 15-19 September in Williamsburg. She will be conducting four classes which will cover everything from increasing practice production to preparing for the DANB chairside and radiation health and safety certification exams. For more information, visit the “Continuing Education” page on this website.
Also attending the Williamsburg session will be the DANB Board of Directors Secretary-Treasurer, Lois Bell, CDA, CPFDA, CRFDA, MADAA. She will have DANB information to distribute to any assistants interested in pursuing national certification and will be happy to answer any questions regarding the process.
