One of the biggest goals I had for dental assistants heading into 2019 was to create a better way for assistants to learn from each other. As I have lectured all over the world, I have seen the positive impact that comes from assistants talking with each other and discussing their common issues and joys.
A great way for dental assistants to learn from each other is to share the moments in their careers that haven’t been so glamorous. Let’s face it, we have all goofed up at some point and wish that we somehow could have avoided that mistake.
What we are doing with the new “Dental Assistant Fails” series is allowing assistants to openly and honestly share the moments they wish they could do over and what they learned from those moments. By sharing those moments with other assistants, it very well could help those learning from their colleagues avoid those same mistakes.
We have partnered with DentistryIQ on this learning opportunity for assistants and are pushing it out through social media with the hashtag, “#DAFails.” John Dewey once said, “Failure is instructive. The person who really thinks learns quite as much from his failures as from his successes.” We believe this can be the case with dental assistants and would love for you to join us in this effort. Learn more about it (and share your own mistakes) by clicking here. We really do believe it is all about #TogetherWeRise at IgniteDA.
YOU WILL WANT TO HEAR THIS
On a recent episode of the Dental Assistant Nation podcast, we discussed the growing problem online with assistants attacking each other and being helpful rather than hurtful. It is time we put an end to this and our awesome St. Louis-area dental assistant Tija Hunter, CDA, EFDA, CDIA, CDSO, MADAA, stopped by to throw in her opinion and ideas on how to put an end to it. The podcast is just over 12 minutes long and well worth a listen.
